Vanessa Gürtler, founder of Wodka Wanessa, is graduate of University of Gastronomic Sciences (UNISG) in Bra. Alois Gölles distills 3 varieties for Wodka Wanessa - Spelt, Corn and Rye.

Wodka Wanessa is a handmade Slow Food Product, so the packaging design has to tell the same. The bottles are labelled with duct tape by hand - every bottle is unique. For a set of the 3 tastes the focus was on creating a box with a high shelf-impact. Designed was a type of handbag in the shape of a Matryoshka which contains one 0,2l bottle of each sort. Easy to carry and stable. We choose the shape of a russian doll, because vodka is often associated with its origin (Russia/Poland).
The cardboard box is lovely and witty and the space-saving cut is eco-friendly. It's easy to assemble without adhesive – a ribbon as closure emphasises the handmade vodka production. Purity of this vodka is shown with two-sided window faces. The punched-out window faces are reused as tasting sheets - nothing is wasted.

Vanessa Gürtler, Absolventin der Universität für gastronomische Wissenschaften (UNISG) in Bra, produziert gemeinsam mit Alois Gölles 3 Sorten Wodka Wanessa - Dinkel, Mais, und Roggen.
Wodka Wanessa ist ein handgemachtes Slow Food Produkt, dementsprechend muss auch die Verpackung gestaltet sein: Die Flaschen werden nicht bedruckt sondern von Hand mit Klebeband etikettiert, somit wird jede Flasche zum Unikat. Für das Wanessa-3er-Set sollte eine Verpackung mit hohem 'Shelf Impact' kreiert werden - der Wodka ist besonders, so soll es auch die Verpackung sein. Designt wurde eine Art Handtasche in Form einer Matroschka. Das Set beinhaltet je eine 0,2l Flasche jeder Sorte. Die Form der russischen Puppe wurde gewählt, da Wodka oft mit seiner Herkunft (Russland/Polen) assoziiert wird.

Die Matroschkatasche kommt liebenswert und freundlich daher, ist stabil und kann durch das Griffloch leicht getragen werden. Der platzsparende Zuschnitt aus Kraftkarton ist umweltfreundlich, leicht aufzurichten und kommt ganz ohne Verklebung aus. Mit einer Schleife wird die Verpackung verschlossen, dadurch wird nochmals das Handgemachte unterstrichen. Des Wodkas Reinheit wird durch beidseitige Sichtfenster gezeigt. Die dabei entstandenen Ausstanzungen werden als Tastingunterlagen wiederverwendet.

This paraffin block packaging was created by JWT Amsterdam, I think, with good intensions. But often the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Graphics are beautifully designed - the background is tragic at all. The pictures show the greatest fires in history where a lot of people died and cultural sites were destroyed.

The slogan top it all off: "The Greatest Fires in History. Now in your livingroom!"

So will my house burn down, when I use this product?

"bureau SLA designed and built a pavilion in collaboration with Overtreders W. The pavilion, a coffee bar for a park in Amsterdam-north, is entirely built from materials from marktplaats (the dutch eBay). The Noorderparkbar, as it is called, consists of three steel frames (former hospital barracks) of which two are outside spaces."

I really appreciate the idea of being creative and productive with second-hand materials.
Noorderparkbar will be the first sight next time I'm visiting Amsterdam!
